What is Hampshire Sheen?
- Hampshire Sheen produces a glorious warm lustre that envelopes decorative turned wood in a quietly discerning and quintessentially English way.
- The Hampshire Sheen product range is a blend of danish oil, carnauba wax for a tough finish and microcrystalline wax for additional protection. Each pot of Hampshire Sheen in the UK and Europe is blended by creator Martin’s own hand, poured individually and allowed to cool slowly before labelling.
- Hampshire Sheen Original and High Gloss are stiff paste waxes (think harder than what you are used to with other brands of paste wax) with a very high wax content to produce a finish that we believe is second to none. We don’t include any beeswax whatsoever as a softening agent as that would mean Hampshire Sheen would dull after some handling. The finish you get with Hampshire Sheen is the most resilient on the independent market. Due to popular demand though, Hampshire Sheen BeeLine Wax is our first product to feature a beeswax base.
Applications
- Turn your piece and then sand it immaculately down to your preferred grit.
- Apply a single coat of sanding sealer.
- Cut this back with with a fine Nyweb pad (or, if you really have to, 0000 wire wool).
- Apply Hampshire Sheen with the lathe at a medium speed and evenly cover the piece, making sure there are no lines running round it.
- Subsequent thin coats can be applied with the lathe running faster.
- Allow the finish to dry a few seconds before lightly buffing to a lustre with the lathe at a medium to fast speed.
